Basement Game Room Ideas
The basement is one of the most popular places to put a game room in your home. In fact, may people often start off with a completely unfinished game room, and remodel their entire home to accomodate their new leisure space. A game room in the basement can provide hours of fun for the entire family, or even keep the kids occupied while mom and dad spend some quiet time upstairs.
Choosing what to put in your game room can be a challenge. We've already gone over a lot of ideas, but here are some more ideas for a game room in the basement.
Home Theater: If you look at some of the home decorating magazines, you will come across amazing examples of basement home theaters, but you don't have to spend tens of thousands of dollars to be the envy of the neighborhood. A nice 1080P big screen television with a surround sound system is a good start, and will get you into the home theater crowd for under $2,000. Next you can add some comfy chairs and artwork on the walls and suddenly your hopme theater starts to take shape.
If you are adding several rows of chairs, consider building a platform to put the back row of chairs on, so everybody is not on the same level. It will not only give it more of a theater feel, but it will be greatly appreciated by your guests.
Exercise Machines: Games are not only fun, but they can also give you a workout. You can add a Wii Fit to your gaming system, or buy a traditional treadmill, exercise bike, etc. to be able to work out while enjoying your big screen TV.
Yoga Mats: Yoga mats are good to exercise on, or to just sit on and play games. You can get extra-thick yoga mats, or even find spongy flooring that locks together to do your whole floor.
Games, Games Games: Buy a bookcase and organize all of your board games on it. Normally around Christmas you can find many of the "classic" board games like Sorry, Chutes and Ladders, Monopoly, and others on sale for under $10. You can also use the bookcase for your video game cases.
Boom Box: A good boom box with iPod dock makes a great addition to the ultimate game room. You can even hook up the boom box to your home theater surround sound and have a truly great audio experience. Turn it up, man!
These are just a few examples of basement game room ideas. I hope you find them useful.
